In the Joursanvault collection, the Abbé Grégoire library in Blois, France, conserves a record concerning the office of the bouteillerie of the Count of Blois in the second half of the 14th century. An 1385 wine account is unusual in that it uses a technical vernacular name to describe the various qualities of vines and wines : auvernat, tendrier, fromenté, fourmenté, vin de festu, vin saugé. Elle est le fruit de la volonté des élites économiques et politiques locales et se veut à la fois une réponse à la crise de mévente de l’entre-deux-guerres et au développement des questions ethnographiques. La mise en valeur du patrimoine vitivinicole beaunois est donc avant tout la résultante d’une mobilisation et d’une réflexion locales. Lorsque Georges-Henri Rivière intervient en 1946, il s’agit avant tout de donner un caractère scientifique et ainsi de relégitimer une institution marquée par la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Ainsi, Georges-Henri Rivière n’a pas fondé le musée du vin, mais il lui a donné toute sa place au sein du réseau des musées d’ethnographie.
