Choisis par Pierre Boulez comme points de départ de trois de ses œuvres, les poèmes de René Char font l’objet d’un traitement musical paradoxal, entre centralité et absence, traitement que nous étudierons en particulier dans Le Marteau sans maître. Les structures, rythmes et résonances issus des trois poèmes choisis donnent à cette œuvre ses chiffres secrets, sans toutefois se surimposer à la partie musicale. Le texte, porté par un chant soliste, oscille entre intelligibilité et fusion dans le tissu sonore. Une autre entente de ces poèmes se fait ainsi jour, plus profonde et mouvante. Nourrie des surgissements de mots, mais aussi des jeux de résonance et des « rapports virtuels » que provoque leur étroite cohérence musicale, cette entente devient celle d’un texte à la fois « MÉconnaissable et REconnaissable ». How does one put a text to music, taking it from the book to the score ? Three of Pierre Boulez’ pieces are inspired by the poems of René Char, but he subjects them to a paradoxical transformation, which we will study in his work Le Marteau sans maître. The motifs, rhythms and echoes that come from the three poems chosen by Boulez form the underlying but hidden structure of the music. The text, sung by a soloist, alternates between distinct clarity and fusion with the musical tapestry. The piece thereby allows for a new reading of the poems, both more profound and more moving.
