Cet article montre comment l’humour peut être considéré, dans cette œuvre, non pas comme un symptôme de légèreté vis-à-vis de la matière traitée, mais plutôt comme un ressort narratif. Grâce à l’humour Libera nos a malo parvient d’une part à tracer un portrait fidèle et lucide de la réalité de l’entre-deux-guerres, tout en amortissant le choc de la critique directe, d’autre part à restituer l’image de la complexité du rapport de Meneghello à son pays d’origine, fait à la fois d’attirance et de répulsion, de tendresse et d’esprit critique. In Libera nos a malo by Luigi Meneghello the conjunction between the sweet memories of the author's birthplace, the criticism of fascism and the denouncement of the hard conditions of life in a rural village in the north of Italy, is possible through humour. This article shows how humour can be considered, in Libera nos a malo, not as a way of being naive about the subject, but as a narrative ability. Thanks to its sense of humour it is able to trace a lucid and faithful portrait of the time period between the two World Wars, while it avoids direct criticism. Moreover it is able to show the complexity of Meneghello’s relation with his birthplace, which is made of attraction and repulsion, of tenderness and critical spirit.
