Au XVIIIe siècle, l’abondance des correspondances et le recours systématique à un objet, la lettre, qui permet de maintenir un lien avec l’être absent dont on est séparé, va de pair avec la prolifération d’ouvrages censés fixer une norme et produire des modèles en la matière. En littérature, le courant sentimental qui caractérise le roman espagnol de la fin du XVIIIe siècle est essentiellement axé sur l’étude et l’exaltation des sentiments humains et des tourments de l’âme, et repose largement sur l’écriture épistolaire. This article suggests studying how the epistolary writing expresses and conveys the privacy, a privacy either lived within social practices, or imagined when it is about literature. In the XVIIIth century, the abundance of the correspondences and the systematic recourse to the letter, which allows to maintain a link with the absent, goes hand in hand with the proliferation of works supposed to fix a standard and to produce models on the subject. This article is based on a corpus of 16th-century manuscript miracle narratives held in the Spanish monastery of Guadalupe.
