Rédigé en pleine cure de désintoxication, le journal remet en question la nosologie de l’institution médicale et en refuse les préceptes quasi « religieux ». L’institution médicale est accusée d’assujettir ses patients en les amenant à se constituer comme une subjectivité unitaire, transparente et confessante – sommés d’incorporer et d’incarner les étapes d’un récit téléologique et salvateur. Le parti pris du journal intime remet en cause le « récit » médico-religieux de l’addiction puisqu’échappant à toute totalisation rétrospective, révélant la complexité du vécu en souffrance. Le journal réussit à mettre en lumière l’aveuglement du corps médical face à la fiction inhérente au diagnostic et à la potentialité curative de la littérature. The article sheds light on Cocteau’s critique of the dichotomy between the healthy and the pathological through an examination of his intimate journal titled Opium, Journal d’une désintoxication.Written during a period of detoxification, the journal challenges the nosology of the medical institution and rejects its quasi-“religious” precepts. The medical institution is accused of subjecting its patients by compelling them to adhere to a unified, transparent, and confessing subjectivity - urged to incorporate and embody the stages of a teleological and salvific narrative. The journal’s stance challenges the medical-religious “narrative” of addiction as it escapes retrospective totalization, revealing the complexity of the patient’s lived experience.
