L’analyse d’une double littérature des Chénier, écrite par les Chénier d’une part et écrite sur les Chénier d’autre part, permet d’envisager l’importance que prend la littérature dans la construction voire la destruction des liens familiaux, et de confronter différentes versions familiales qui ressortissent de tout un imaginaire littéraire et collectif. Il s’agit dès lors d’étudier l’image anthume et posthume d’une famille littéraire, au tournant historique que constitue le passage de l’Ancien au Nouveau Régime. Le cas des Chénier révèle les enjeux propres à toute famille qui s’abandonne à la littérature, et dont la construction tourne à la fiction. The Chénier family takes part in literature twofold: it is built during its lifetime in writing, through internal literary exchanges and conflicts, but also a posteriori in an external literary fiction. Analysing a double Chéniers’ literature—written by the Chéniers on the one hand and written about the Chéniers on the other hand—allows us to consider the importance of literature in the construction or destruction of family bonds and to compare different family versions which belong to a whole literary and collective imagination. We shall endeavour to consider the anthumous and posthumous image of a literary family at the historical turning point that the transition from the Ancien Régime to the Nouveau Régime constitutes. The Chéniers’ case reveals the stakes that are specific to any family which gives in to literature and whose construction turns into fiction.
