A new winemaking region, located in the altitude area of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, is presented. The text explores since the discover of the potential of the region for viticulture, including the characterization of the climate and its influence on the metabolism of the vine and on the typicity of the wines, soils, grape varieties and the human factor, as well the development of the wine tourism, arriving to its maturity as a region.
