Dans son souci de comprendre les rapports établis entre groupes sociaux et formes prises par les activités, les paysages, l’organisation des territoires, cette géographie a privilégié la recherche à partir des données du milieu physique, de l’économie et de la politique appréhendées le plus souvent dans la longue durée. Mais, sinon par la description de ses aspects matériels, la culture elle-même n’était pas réellement au centre des interrogations. Notre propos voudrait alors insister sur la dimension idéelle de la culture dans la compréhension des réalités viti-vinicoles girondines. A travers le phénomène du « château viticole », il y a en effet de bonnes raisons de croire en l’existence de rapports entre paysages viticoles et idéologie spécifique à certaines catégories d’acteurs. Through its desire to understand the relationships between different social groups and the way in which activities, landscapes and territorial organisation have developed, this kind of geography has given greater importance to research data obtained over a long period of time from the areas of physics, economy and politics. However, besides the description of his material aspects, culture was not at the heart of this research. Our intention is thus to insist on the ideological dimension in understanding wine-growing and wine-making realities in the Gironde region.
