Textes & Contextes is linked to the Interlanguage Center – Texte, Image, Languages (EA 4182) – a research laboratory of the University of Burgundy. Its main focus is on foreign cultures and deals with questions such as the representation of national or regional identities through different types of discourse (public, political, philosophical, historic, literary, cinematographic…) as well as the linguistic expression of these identities.

Ce numéro propose de réfléchir aux représentations de l’invisible et des invisibles à travers toutes les formes d’arts essentiellement visuels et le cinéma. Dans une approche transdisciplinaire, les contributions s’organisent autour d’une double problématique : la mise en scène de l’invisible et des invisibles en tant que geste créatif, et leurs diverses représentations pour analyser le regard porté par les arts et le cinéma sur les figures du non-vu, de l’imperceptible ou de l’« immontrable » (Becker 2021).

This issue invites reflection on representations of the invisible in all forms of primarily visual arts and cinema. Adopting a transdisciplinary approach, the contributions centre on two main questions. They analyse the rendering of the invisible as a creative gesture, and/or examine representations of the invisible to analyse how the arts and cinema portray figures that are unseen, ignored, imperceptible or “unshowable” (Becker 2021).
