http://preo.ube.fr/textesetcontextes/index.php?id=2230 Cet article porte sur une étude socio-historique diachronique du domaine de la diplomatie anglophone et propose une analyse du genre du « manuel diplomatique » entre 1603 et 1917. En nous appuyant sur un corpus de neuf ouvrages, nous aborderons la manière dont l’activité diplomatique s’est spécialisée au cours de l’histoire, en lien avec un contexte international changeant où la notion d’État prend de plus en plus d’importance dans la pensée politique occidentale. Nous verrons également comment le domaine diplomatique s’est structuré autour d’un lexique et d’un ensemble de genres spécialisés, qui se sont généralisés et complexifiés autour de conventions thématiques, phraséologiques et structurelles particulières. This paper presents a socio-historical diachronic study of the domain of anglophone diplomacy and proposes an analysis of the “diplomatic manual” genre between 1603 and 1917. Relying on a corpus of nine publications, we discuss how diplomatic activity became more specialised over time, reflecting an evolving international context in which the notion of the state was taking on an ever greater importance in Western political thought. We also highlight how the diplomatic domain became structured around specific lexis and specialised genres that spread and gained in complexity, based on specific thematic, phraseological, and structural norms.
