L’enjeu du ‘retour’ d’une ‘nature’ digne de ce nom au cœur de l’un des espaces les plus urbanisés du pays demeure complexe. La question posée dans cet article est celle de la légitimité de cette ‘nature’, à la fois comme objet esthétique et écologique – de quelle nature s’agit-il ? – mais aussi comme objet politique – qui choisit de quelle nature il s’agit ? A dozen years after a revitalization masterplan for the Los Angeles River was adopted by the city council (2007), the construction work has begun, and the face of the concrete channel has turned greener. The ‘return’ of a ‘nature’ worthy of the name in the heart of one of the most urbanized places in the country remains a complex issue.
