In Senzaterra (2008) Evelina Santangelo depicts the economic and social situation in a Sicilian village, against the background of an influx of illegal migrants. The novel involves two characters, Gaetano and Ali, representing respectively the Italian emigrant, torn between leaving or remaining, and the illegal immigrant.
