Dans le récit de l’actualité, l’appréhension de l’immigration en Italie aujourd’hui ne semble guère compatible avec le souvenir de l’émigration des Italiens autrefois. Tout au plus, les migrants sont inscrits dans une dimension éternelle, à la lumière de l’humanité, dans la continuité des autres mouvements migratoires. Italy’s main daily newspapers have been following migration to Lampedusa since the 1990s. And yet, none of the 1,181 articles dedicated to this topic in La Repubblica between 1992 and 2010 makes any reference to the great century of Italian emigration. In news reporting, the perception of immigration in today’s Italy hardly seems to integrate the memory of past Italian emigration.
