At the end of the 16th century, and more particularly during the rebellion that took place in Saragossa in 1591, the Aragonese identity was defined in opposition to Castile. This article studies the texts written by the insurgents in order to highlight the main themes of the Aragonese rebels’ identity rhetoric and the way their main leader, Antonio Pérez, introduces himself as a harsh defender of his motherland.
